Reefkeeping Tip #2

Today's tip is hair algae control.  There is no magic potion or method to get rid of it.  A controllable amount of algae actually shows a healthy tank.  The way that I got rid of it in my tank was brute force that included regular water changes (weekly), manual pruning of the hair algae, and rock scrubbing.  A phosphate reactor also helps somewhat.  Now I just have a few snails that have hair algae wigs and that's pretty much it.  It takes time and patience, but there really is no other way to get rid of it.  No matter what your tank will go through a stage where you have a lot of hair algae.
