Smart ReefTM Introduces New Line of Reef Aquarium Products

Reef Aquarium Products without the “typical” marine and reef price

Flemington — July 9, 2008 — Today Smart Reef TM announced immediate availability of its new line of reef aquarium products. Smart ReefTM sells the staples required to maintain a good aquarium: Good products at a good price. Smart ReefÔ doesn’t sell snake oil or potions that claim to magically remove algae or cure your fish of disease. Smart Reef products work the way they are advertised and are backed by standard reef chemistry.

Smart ReefTM’s new products include:

Smart ReefTM BAC (Bituminous Activated Carbon) is a pure 8x30 mesh non-acid washed carbon and will not leach phosphates into your water. Smart ReefTM BAC is made from virgin bituminous activated carbon and is made from the highest select grade of virgin bituminous coal and is specifically designed to be used in the aquarium.
Smart ReefTM BAC is simply the best value dollar for dollar for use in your aquarium.  Our carbon is a virgin activated carbon. This stuff is rated for drinking water use and food grade use.  Last 2 to 3 times longer than most carbons including lignite.  It is phosphate and nitrate free as well which is key for use in aquariums.

Smart ReefTM RemPhos is granular ferric oxide (GFO) a phosphate remover.  Smart ReefTM RemPhos is designed to effectively remove PO4 / phosphate, silicates, organic compounds and heavy metals.  It was originally designed for the drinking water industry. Smart ReefTM RemPhos functions best in a media reactor.  Smart ReefTM RemPhos does not leach absorbed substances back in to your water and does not affect pH.

Smart ReefTM 2/3 part solution are measured sets of Smart ReefTM products to maintain calcium, alkalinity and magnesium in your aquarium.

Smart ReefTM +Mag1 (Magnesium Chloride) will help restore restore low levels of magnesium in your aquarium when used with Smart ReefTM +Mag2. Magnesium in the ocean are between 1250 mg/L and 1350 mg/L. Magnesium is required to maintain the correct calcium, alkalinity and ph levels in the aquarium.

Smart ReefTM +Mag2 (Magnesium Chloride) when used in conjunction with Smart ReefTM +Mag1 will help restore restore low levels of magnesium in your aquarium. Magnesium levels in the ocean are between 1250 mg/L and 1350 mg/L. Magnesium is required to maintain the correct calcium, alkalinity and ph levels in the aquarium

Smart ReefTM +AlkHPH (Sodium Bicarbonate) is a alkalinity buffer and part of a 2 part solution or can be used separately. In order to maintain calcium levels in your aquarium you also must maintain your alkalinity.   You want your alkalinity to be in the 9 to 12 dKH range.

Smart ReefTM +Alk (Sodium Carbonate) is part of the 2 part system or can be used separately.  It buffers your alkalinity and can also be used to raise PH. Alkalinity must be maintained in order to maintain calcium levels.

Smart ReefTM +Kalk (Calcium Hydroxide more commonly known as Kalkwasser) increases calcium and PH.

All Smart ReefTM products are competitively priced and will begin shipping next week.

America's oldest aquarium gets a new look

WASHINGTON - America's oldest aquarium has a new look, and you might not know it's in an unlikely place in downtown D.C.

The National Aquarium is inside the the U.S. Department of Commerce building on 14th Street between Pennsylvania and Constitution avenues in Northwest.

The aquarium is "at the very end stage" of a makeover, with new paint and carpet and impressive new displays, thanks to a partnership with the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

"We have a feeding demonstration every day at 2 p.m., and our alligators get fed once a week on Fridays. And I have to say, it's a must-see," Executive Director Bob Ramin says.

Info on the new Vortech

REVOLUTIONARY PUMP TECHNOLOGY FOR REEF AQUARIUMS

May 23, 2008

EcoTech Marine Introduces Next Generation VorTech at InterZoo
Company takes international stage as part of its European and Asian market expansion

EcoTech Marine, the company that revolutionized coral aquarium propeller pumps with the VorTech MP40w, unveiled a series of innovative enhancements and new features to their award-winning VorTech pumps today at InterZoo, the world’s leading exhibition for the pet industry. The next generation VorTech provides users with even greater flexibility, safety, durability and performance.

“Over the past year we have been listening to our valued customers, talking with our retailers, monitoring the market and are delighted to announce the VorTech MP40w Gen2,” said Tim Marks, EcoTech director of production. “As innovators in the reef aquarium industry, we strive to continually enhance our products, and Gen2 will once again raise the bar for the industry.”

The MP40w Gen2 features a new magnet, high performance plastic drive shaft screw, and revised wet frame cover. The new magnet is fully encapsulated within black plastic, cannot be scratched or damaged under normal use, is more durable, eliminates rusting and requires no regularly scheduled replacements.

New features for the MP40w Gen 2 include:

  • A new Long Pulse Mode allows for wave pulse timings of between 2 and 60 seconds, enabling the creation of slow alternating flow throughout the tank.
  • A new Night Mode enables the pump to operate for 14 hours in whichever mode is selected for the day and go back to Night Mode for 10 hours. Master pumps will tell their slaves to go into Night Mode as well.
  • Pump Disconnect feature that automatically shuts down the pump if the dry and wet sides become separated.

Enhancements to existing modes include:

  • Feed Mode has been slowed from 1000gph to 500gph to make it easier than ever to spot feed corals and slow moving fish with the push of a button.
  • A modified range of adjustment for Short Pulse Mode makes it easier to fine tune wave form.
  • A novel save function for Pulse Mode enables users to save their wave settings, providing an even higher level of customization.
  • A more sporadic Reef Crest Mode for both single pump systems and multi pump systems enables more pronounced speed changes constantly throughout the day.
  • A more sporadic Lagoon Mode for both single pump systems and multi pump systems provides enhanced variability to better simulate a lagoon environment.

In addition, the Generation 2 is backwards compatible with all VorTech pumps. “We are always working to upgrade and improve upon our products and we will continue to do so,” Marks said from Nürnberg. “As we have done in the past, we strive to make all upgrades backwards compatible at nominal costs so that our customers are able to have the latest and greatest EcoTech products in their aquariums.”

Generation 2 magnet upgrade kits can be purchased directly from EcoTech Marine for $9.45 plus shipping by calling 1.800.954.8480 then dialing for service, or emailing service@ecotechmarine.com. EcoTech will start shipping magnet upgrade kits late next week. Customers that purchase a first generation VorTech MP40w after May 23 can contact EcoTech at sales@ecotechmarine.com and include a scanned copy of their sales receipt and completed warranty registration card and EcoTech will waive the $9.45 charge. Customer will only pay for shipping.
Existing drivers can be upgraded to Gen2 through a simple code re-flash. Because of the programmability of the driver, once a driver is upgraded to Gen2, that driver can upgrade other Wireless Wave Drivers. The code upgrade itself is free though depending on the way a customer chooses to upgrade, shipping fees may apply. Customers can:

  • Mail in their existing VorTech Wireless Wave Driver to EcoTech, along with their address and credit card information. Upon receipt, EcoTech will load the Gen2 code onto the driver and ship it back. The credit card will only be billed for the actual shipping rates. If new magnets are purchased at the same time, both driver and magnets will be shipped back together, helping customers reduce shipping cost.
  • Take their driver to an EcoTech Marine dealer that has a Gen2 demo and upgrade at their location. If they do not already have a demo model available with the new code to perform the upgrade, the dealer can contact EcoTech Marine directly.
  • Find a local reefer that has a Generation 2 driver.  All Gen2 drivers have the ability to perform the re-flashing process on other MP40w pumps.
  • Purchase a new driver from your favorite vendor or EcoTech Marine.   All drivers purchased from EcoTech Marine will have the Generation 2 code.
